Maritime Security
Coastal defence against attack by opposing maritime forces, and counter-piracy are traditional Navy missions that have undergone radical changes in the last few years.
Coastal defence must now be able to account for non-state actors and attacks directed at critical infrastructure and civilian personnel, as well as the protection of military vessels and facilities. New technologies that potential adversaries may use must be countered. The concept must be expanded to include offshore critical infrastructure, including oil platforms, pipelines, and cables. Solutions must include a wide range of military and civilian participants, activities and technologies.
The recent growth of piracy in various regions of the world has forced a fresh look at counter-piracy. How do we employ technology to make up for a limited number of platforms in a broad ocean area?
