Mr James Parker

James Parker (Senior Research Engineer, Laser Processing) has been with the MTC for over nine years primarily focused on welding and brazing technologies. Before joining the MTC in May 2014, James spent over 27 years within the welding industry. Completing his apprenticeship in welding in 1998, James gained experience as a first-class multi-process welder for a wide range of industries, culminating in eight years tenure as welding technician for the Motor Industry Research Association (MIRA).

His passion for engineering led him to further his education with the Open University awarded BEng (Hons) in 2016 and professional membership of TWI.

More recently, James has utilised his extensive welding knowledge to move into the additive manufacturing world, leading MTC offerings for Directed Energy Deposition (DED) technologies. 

This has also been complemented by James completing an MSc in Metal Additive Manufacturing with Cranfield University Welding and Laser processing Centre in 2020.
