Mr Nigel Whybrow
Future Submarines & Technology Director, Babcock International Group
Nigel has spent his working life in the maritime systems arena; the great majority of which has been involved with the design and operation of naval underwater vehicles - from torpedoes and mine disposal systems to submarine in-service support working in industry and on attachment to the UK MoD. In his current role of Future Submarines & Technology Director for Babcock International he supports early stage design activities around a number of projects and is involved in the development of wider appreciation of open and ambitious design and technology development in the company. He is also part of the UK's Submarine Naval Design Partnering Arrangement which undertakes concept work and specific studies for UK MoD. Nigel has led several published concept studies including the Hydra highly modular submarine concept with Babcock and the SSGT high mobility SSK whilst at BMT Defence Services. He believes in the merit of using concept work to challenge the status quo and identify elements of emerging technology, design, engineering and operation which can be exploited as complementary aspects to effect change and realise benefits. Nigel is a Fellow of both the IMechE and RINA.
