Why Rostock?

Hero image

Our host city

We chose Rostock to host UDT 2021 as it is home to Marinekommando - the high command of the German Navy and staff of the Inspector of the Navy, the Navy's highest commander.

Formed in 2012, it was a merger of the Navy Office (Marineamt), Naval Staff (Führungsstab der Marine), and Fleet Command (Flottenkommando), as part of a larger re-organisation of the Bundeswehr.

Germany has been a great location over the years for UDT and we are excited to return in 2021!

Rostock below the surface

Rostock is also the future home of the Baltic Sea Maritime Component Command, which will oversee the command and control of naval operations in the region.

The Baltic Sea links allies in Germany, Poland and the Baltic states with NATO partners in Finland and Sweden, and the rest of Europe. Recent naval investments in the Baltic region has brought a substantial range of naval capabilities to the area. This made Rostock a natural choice for UDT 2021, where the maritime community will once again convene to discuss cooperation and alignment of efforts, and debate the strategic initiatives and capability areas for future investment in the undersea domain.

Extend your visit

Why not explore the host nation once the exhibition is over? With a combination of rich history, a white sandy beach and mid-summer weather, Rostock makes for an interesting visit. You can also easily access other popular destinations in Germany and surrounding nations.

Whether you are there for the three day show or you plan to stay longer, the region has plenty to offer.
